Transaction closing marked at InnoTrans 2026, together with the City of Poznań
Alpha Trains completes sale of 11 Talent DMUs for deployment in Poland
Poznań/Berlin, 24 September 2026 - Alpha Trains has completed the sale of 11 Bombardier (now: Alstom) Talent diesel multiple units (DMUs) to Public Transport Service (PTS) and Modertrans Poznań (Modertrans). The transaction follows the agreement announced by the parties at TRAKO 2025 in Gdansk and will bring 11 modern Talent trains to the Polish market.
Alpha Trains, PTS, Modertrans and the Mayor of the City of Poznań, Jacek Jaśkowiak, marked the closing together during InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin.
The fleet consists of three-car Talent DMUs with a maximum speed of 120 km/h, air conditioning, wheelchair-accessible toilets and 137 seats. The trains have been in continuous passenger service in Germany and are designed for operation in multiple-unit formations.
The 11 trains will undergo a comprehensive overhaul and be homologated for operation in Poland by PTS and Modertrans. The partners are keeping to their target of having the first vehicles ready for operation in Poland within 18 months.
The project responds to the continued demand for DMUs in Poland, where many regional routes are not electrified and operators are looking for cost-effective fleet solutions. Overhauled and homologated vehicles can enter service considerably faster than newly built trains, at a time when new-build DMU capacity is limited.
"This transaction demonstrates the value that well-maintained secondary-market fleets can deliver to operators facing urgent capacity requirements," said Stephan Wegert, Commercial Director of Alpha Trains. "Together with PTS and Modertrans, we are enabling the rapid and cost-effective introduction of modern rolling stock in Poland. We are pleased to have found partners with the technical expertise, homologation experience and workshop capacity needed to bring these trains into service in Poland. The first six Talent units will be handed over in December 2026."
“The Talent units represent another major milestone in PTS’s growing portfolio of secondary rolling stock projects,” said Robert Karwasz of PTS. “PTS is already delivering several overhaul, modernisation and polonization programmes, and the Talent project is the next step in this development. For this particular programme, we are working together with Modertrans and Alpha Trains to meet the needs of the Polish market and to provide the workshop capacity required in Paterek and Poznań.”
The overhaul and modernisation work will contribute to rail industry activity in the Poznań region, where Modertrans operates maintenance and modernisation facilities and already performs work on diesel and electric multiple units for several Polish operators.
With 11 trains, the project represents one of the largest planned deployments of Talent diesel multiple units in Poland. The transaction also highlights the growing role of secondary-market rolling stock in supporting regional passenger transport and addressing near-term fleet requirements.
Looking ahead, Alpha Trains believes additional opportunities exist for the deployment of further Talent units in Poland: Over the coming years, the company could make up to 50 Bombardier/Alstom Talent DMUs available to the Polish market, subject to customer demand and project requirements.About Alpha Trains
