On every track our local people make the difference!

What do you do at Alpha Trains Group and how long have you been working there?

I am a Senior Commercial Manager for Alpha Trains’ Locomotives division. I am based in Cologne and my focus is the DACH market – Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. I have been with Alpha Trains since January 2018, and I really enjoy working closely with the rest of my team, which is mainly based in Antwerp, and with colleagues across departments to deliver tailored solutions for our customers.

Why did you choose to join Alpha Trains?

Before joining Alpha Trains, I worked in the automotive software industry for over 12 years in a commercial role. When this position came up, I was immediately drawn to the international character of the team and the positive energy I felt during the interview process. I’ve never experienced such a warm and welcoming atmosphere before – it was the deciding factor for me! At Alpha Trains, you can find very diverse people, unique personalities that complement each other, and come together seamlessly to create a great, thriving team. This rich human capital really sets the company apart.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The team spirit! My role involves collaborating closely with colleagues from various departments - fleet, maintenance, and more. Every day, I learn something new from my colleagues. Everyone is an expert in their field, and extremely supportive. None of us can succeed alone… This collective expertise is the cornerstone of Alpha Trains’ success.

From my very first days at the company, I  felt incredibly welcome. The trust and bond I have built with my teammates are unmatched.

What are the specific characteristics of the German market? Are there specific needs?

The German railway market for locomotives is the largest in Europe, with a multitude of operators, that each face unique challenges. One of the biggest issues today is insufficient infrastructure, and the extensive construction work on tracks for maintenance and upgrades. The low level of electrification, compared to Austria and Switzerland, creates a growing demand for dual-mode locomotives, such as the Vectron Dual Mode and the Euro 9000, which can operate on both electric and diesel power.

What is your favorite locomotive and why?

The Vectron Dual Mode is my favorite. It is incredibly reliable, flexible, and perfectly suited to the challenges of the German market. Its ability to adapt to diverse operational needs makes it an excellent choice for our customers.

How do you define customer satisfaction?

Customer satisfaction is achieved when a client feels truly cared for and listened to. It is about building trust through transparency, and a genuine effort to address their challenges. Creating a relationship where the customer knows they can rely on you is a great challenge, but when you succeed, the reward is priceless.
