Alpha Trains Provides Trains for Dieselnetz Nordwestsachsen (DNWS) Concession

Cologne, 1. March 2016

Last year Alpha Trains Luxembourg S.à r.l. won a European tender launched by the public transport authorities (PTAs) Zweckverband für den Nahverkehrsraum Leipzig (ZVNL) and Zweckverband Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen (ZVMS) for the provision of the trains for the Dieselnetz Nordwestsachsen (DNWS) concession, part B. Transdev Regio Ost GmbH was awarded the operation of this concession after successfully winning the subsequent EU tender to find the operator of the trains.

The extensively modified Bombardier Talent and Stadler Regio Shuttle RS1 trains will be in operation from June 2016 to December 2025 on the route from Leipzig to Grimma to Döbeln. Alpha Trains ordered new paintwork for the exterior of the trains in the DNWS design as well as the refurbishment of the interior seats. Furthermore, a passenger counting system, modern passenger information system and video monitoring system were installed to ensure the trains meet the current requirements of the PTAs.

“The fact that the PTAs put the provision of the trains out to tender confirms the increasingly important role which modern existing train fleets now play compared to new build projects in the competitive regional public rail transport market” said Shaun Mills, CEO of the Alpha Trains Group. “This was the first project in which we worked directly with the PTAs in this way and it proved to be very successful for all those involved. We are of course very pleased that Transdev, an established partner of ours, is operating in the regional public rail transport market with DNWS and that we are extending the long and very successful working relationship between our two companies” commented Shaun Mills.
